TCL will launch two new smart TV lines for 2023, up to 98 inches – Android Authority

npressfetimg-1259.png

TL;DR

  • TCL has announced its first 2023 smart TVs, and they will be sold in two model categories.
  • The S-Series will be the new TCL budget TVs, while the Q-Series will include more advanced features such as QLED screens.
  • Pricing and release dates for these 2023 TCL smart TVs have yet to be announced.

TCL has been one of the top two smart TV companies in the US for the past four years. For CES 2023, the Chinese brand is revamping its lineup of smart TVs by grouping them into two model categories.

The S-Series will be for budget-minded consumers, while the Q-Series will have QLED displays, more advanced technology, and screen sizes up to 98 inches. All the TCL smart TVs for 2023 will have very slim bezels for their displays.

TCL’s 2023 smart TVs explained

The 4K-based Q-Series will begin with the 50-75-inch Q6 TVs, which will use Quantum Dot technology for a better color picture. Console and PC games can use the Game Accelerator 120 feature, which will allow gaming at up to 120Hz refresh rates (but at the cost of going down to 1080p resolution). The Q7 TVs, available in 55-85 inches, will have the faster Game Accelerator 240, with refresh rates up to 240Hz (again, with the resolution going down to 1080p). It will also have up to five times the local dimming zones compared to the 2022 TCL QLED TVs.

The highest-end TCL smart TVs for 2023 will be the QM8 models, which will range from 65 inches to 98 inches. It will use MiniLED “Ultra” technology for up to 2,400 dimming zones on the display. The onboard speakers will also include a built-in subwoofer, along with Wi-Fi 6 wireless hardware. All the new Q-Series TVs will be custom install compatible for people who want to use them for their home theater rooms.

The budget-themed S-Series TVs will include the 720p S2 models, the 1080p S3 TVs, and the 4K S4 products. The S4 televisions will get the best features, including support for Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio. The S-Series TVs will range from 32 inches to 85 inches.

TCL has used both the Roku and Google TV smart TV operating systems for its previous televisions. It’s unclear which of these smart TV platforms will be installed in the new TCL smart TVs at the time of writing. TCL currently doesn’t have plans to launch an 8K TV in 2023, as the company feels there hasn’t been enough growth in the market to support it. The company does have plans to launch its first QD OLED smart TVs this year though, and will reveal more details later in January. So far, the company has yet to announce prices or release dates for its new TVs.

TCL soundbars for 2023

Along with its new smart TVs, TCL will launch new soundbar models in 2023. Like the new TVs, the soundbars will be grouped into Q-Series and S-Series products.

The S-Series will feature solid power and performance for its price, while the Q-Series will have a larger subwoofer, separate tweeters, auto-room calibration, and more features. Again, specific prices and release dates for the soundbars have yet to be revealed, but we know that all of TCL’s sound bars will be priced below $250.

Leaked Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra images could make it the best Android phone – T3

npressfetimg-1258.png

We’re now less than a week away from the release of the Samsung Galaxy S23 range at the Galaxy Unpacked event. Rumours have been flying for months, giving us a fairly good look at what is sure to be one of the best phones of the year.

At the top of the range, the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is the handset many are looking towards. Its predecessor, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra took the crown of best Android phone with relative ease, but the playing field looks much more competitive this time around.

Top handsets like the Google Pixel 7 Pro, the OnePlus 11 and the Vivo X90 Pro+ have seriously upped their shot-snapping game, with lenses from respected names in photography and AI-powered goodness inside. It’s led many to question whether this is the year that Samsung may finally be toppled, leaving a new Android phone king to take the crown.

But another set of leaked images has just emerged from the S23 Ultra, which may quash that kind of talk once and for all. The snaps come courtesy of everyone’s favourite Samsung insider, Ice Universe (opens in new tab). In the tweet, Ice shared three images and said, “The photograph of S23U is enlarged by 8x and compared. 12MP,50MP,200MP.”

The results from the 200MP sensor are simply staggering. The image is crisp and detailed with fantastic colour balance, and good definition in the shadows.

And if the camera on the S23 Ultra is this good, I don’t think it has much to worry about. I’ve spent the last few months looking in-depth at all of the competitors and I genuinely believed that it might have been knocked off its perch this time around. But Samsung’s effortless UI and operation was always going to be a strong pulling factor, and that, coupled with a camera that might just be the best of an incredible bunch, should allow it to hang onto the top spot for another year.

The Galaxy Unpacked event is set to take place on February 1st, 2023.

Air purifiers: indoor pollution kills but many devices are ineffective and some may even cause harm – theconversation.com

npressfetimg-1256.png

Air pollution kills around 7 million people each year. Most of these deaths occur in developing countries, where solid fuel is often burned in poorly ventilated spaces. However, between 26,000 and 38,000 of those deaths occur in the UK.

People in the UK spend over 80% of their time indoors, whether at home, at work, at school or commuting. So making sure the air inside those enclosed spaces is safe to breathe is crucial.

In recent years, there has been an ever-widening range of air-cleaning devices on the market, especially once it became clear that COVID was an airborne disease. Some devices work by thermal or photocatalytic oxidation, others by adsorption, filtration, UV germicidal irradiation, ion generation and electrostatic precipitation.

Despite their scientific-sounding names, none of these technologies removes all the indoor air pollutants and many generate undesirable chemical pollutants, as was detailed in a recent report by the UK government’s Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage).

For instance, ionising devices give particulate matter an electrical charge that causes it to fall onto surfaces, removing it from the air. However, they can also produce ozone through their operation. Electrostatic precipitation devices also charge particulate matter to remove it but can produce nitrogen oxides and ozone.

Chemical oxidation devices actually use an ozonizer or a mixture of chemicals to release ozone or other oxidants directly into the room. Given that ozone and nitrogen oxides are harmful gases, some of these devices are merely displacing one pollutant with another.

The Sage report concluded that air-cleaning technologies were likely to provide only limited benefit in spaces that were adequately ventilated and were not necessary unless there were specific risks (such as a busy road outside, so making natural ventilation more difficult). The report also concluded that, if needed, those technologies using filtration or germicidal UV were most likely to be beneficial if used correctly.

Some ionic air purifiers may generate ozone – an air pollutant.

One problem with air-cleaning devices is that they are unregulated in the UK. Anyone buying such a device has to rely on information provided by the manufacturer to determine how efficiently it removes pollutants.

The devices tend to be tested under carefully controlled laboratory conditions rather than in a typical, occupied building. The issue of secondary pollutant formation is often not addressed, and advice on where an air-cleaning device should be placed for best results is often absent.

There is too much onus on the consumer to assess the benefits of air-cleaning technologies and which one they should choose.

Making it easier for consumers

To make this easier for consumers, the government needs to create an accredited and independent organisation to test these devices for safety and effectiveness. Testing should be carried out in a realistic indoor environment to ensure that each device is safe to use and maintain as it ages.

And manufacturers should provide clear advice on how to operate and maintain their air-cleaning devices. Operating and maintaining these devices should be as simple as possible.

Manufacturers should also provide the operating parameters, as they currently do for white goods, such as fridges and cookers. Parameters would include things like noise (if the device is too noisy, there is a risk people will turn it down), maintenance costs, the volume of a space that can be cleaned, and pollutant removal efficiency. These should be provided in a standard checklist format, making it easy for consumers to compare devices.

Even with these changes in place, consumers will still need to consider whether indoor spaces or rooms really need air-cleaning technology. This is perhaps the most difficult aspect, given that many consumers will lack the expertise or equipment to understand whether or not they need to clean the air in their homes.

For most homes, natural ventilation is sufficient, particularly after activities that lead to high indoor emissions such as cooking and cleaning. Using a cooker hood in the kitchen when cooking and an extractor fan when using the bathroom will also help. If a building is located on a busy road, opening windows on the other side of the building, or outside of rush hour may be necessary.

One relatively cheap way to help homeowners assess whether they need air cleaning in addition to ventilation would be to buy a carbon dioxide monitor. A recent report indicates that carbon dioxide concentrations consistently above 1,500 parts per million suggest that ventilation is poor and that air cleaning could be beneficial.

Finally, air cleaning will only ever be an interim solution. For most buildings, the best solution is to remove air pollutants from outdoors and ensure that there are adequate window openings to provide sufficient ventilation.

What is a VPN? Can it really protect my online privacy and security? – Fox News

npressfetimg-1255.png

Privacy has never been in such short supply.  There’s one technology I’ve found essential to fighting back against big tech’s prying and spying routine.   A VPN, or virtual private network, can be a very good idea for you to secure your internet connection, and it can be an effective way for you to protect your online privacy and security.

A VPN keeps others out of your personal and professional business

There are many VPN choices are available that can be installed on multiple devices, allowing you to use the VPN connection on all of them.  Some VPN services also have mobile apps that can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play, making it easy to use a VPN on your cell phone.

What exactly does a VPN do?

It encrypts your internet connection and masks your IP address, making it more difficult for hackers, advertisers, and other third parties to track your online activity or steal your personal information. It also gives you the following:

  • Ability to access content that may be blocked or restricted in your location
  • Protection when using public WiFi networks
  • Ability to appear as if you are located in a different country for the purpose of bypassing geo-restrictions on certain websites

MY BROWSER IS SUPER SLOW, HOW DO I FIX IT?

A lot of folks who work remotely have also discovered the advantages of using a VPN to keep their boss from always knowing their exact location.  As far as logging into applications and doing regular Zoom calls, a VPN prevents co-workers from knowing you might have jetted off to Europe or are sitting feet away from a tropical beach.   If you want to share details of paradise it is up to you – not your computer or smartphone.

Essentially, a VPN makes you all but anonymous or invisible while you are online. However, does it make you anonymous to viruses?

Will my VPN protect me from malware and viruses?

A VPN will not offer protection against malware and viruses. These threats are typically spread through email attachments, software downloads, and other means that do not involve the VPN connection itself. To protect yourself from malware and viruses, it’s essential to use a reputable antivirus program and keep it updated, be cautious about opening email attachments from unknown senders, clicking questionable links in text messages, and avoid downloading software from untrusted sources.

To invest or not in a VPN?

Whether or not a VPN is a worthwhile investment depends on your specific needs and level of concern for online security and privacy. In general, a VPN can be a useful tool for protecting your personal information and browsing activity from prying eyes.

New Apple Leak Reveals iPhone 15 Design Shock – Forbes

npressfetimg-1254.png

01/30 Update below. This post was originally published on January 28

Apple shocked iPhone fans last year with the extent of differentiation between iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models. Now a new leak has revealed that the gap between them will grow even wider with the iPhone 15 line-up.

Working with Apple leaker Unknownz21, MacRumors has revealed multiple specification and design differences between the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models, including information sourced from leaked internal Apple documents. Unknownz21 has a remarkable track record, once sourcing an early version of iOS 14 months ahead of release.

Early iPhone 15 Ultra concept shows flat rather than curved edges

aliartist3d

The leaker’s latest information is unlikely to go down well with iPhone buyers on a budget. MacRumors states that documents he obtained “confirm” that ‌Apple’s new 3nm A17 chipset will be exclusive to iPhone 15 Pro models, as will a redesigned chassis with solid state power and volume buttons. Even the phones’ connectivity will be different, with Wi-Fi 6E reserved for the Pros — something previous leaks had not distinguished.

For this latter point, given its unprecedented nature (for example, all iPhone 14 models used Wi-Fi 6), Unknownz21 publicly released the documentation. He also called this “the tip of the iceberg,” with additional leaks, including full images, to follow ahead of the range’s EVT (Engineering Validation Test) stage, which begins in March.

Considering that multiple leaks have already told us that iPhone 15 Pro models will again have superior cameras and exclusive ProMotion displays, there is almost nowhere the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will have parity with their more expensive siblings.

01/30 Update: further news has broken about Apple’s 2023 iPhone plans, or rather what will no longer happen. Noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has revised his prediction that a foldable iPhone will arrive in 2023, stating that Apple has shifted its focus to prioritize a folding iPad instead.

Kuo says that Apple is making a foldable iPad with carbon fiber kickstand, which makes it lighter and more durable. He even reveals that Apple has a supplier for this part, Anje Technology. Kuo explains that a 2024 release is more likely, but he is “positive” about this timeframe and the device’s ability to “boost shipments and improve the product mix.”

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman previously reported that Apple is working on a clamshell iPad design with the bottom half of the folding iPad working as a keyboard when typing. Gurman predicted a release would not be until 2026, which puts two heavyweights of the sector in opposition. Apple fans will hope Kuo is right.

Apple is taking a big risk here. Sales of the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus have been underwhelming, with buyers choosing to spread the higher cost of Pro models over carrier contracts for the clear benefits they bring. So widening that gap is unlikely to give the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus the sales boost.

According to leaks, Apple’s solution is a classic carrot and stick strategy. The carrot is Apple will allegedly bring the Dynamic Island design to standard models. The stick is higher iPhone 15 Pro prices. Whether the gamble pays off, only time will tell.

Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event: what to expect – The Verge

npressfetimg-1253.png

On February 1st, Samsung will hold its first in-person smartphone launch since the Galaxy S20 way back in February 2020. The company is widely expected to announce its new flagship smartphone lineup at the event, namely the Galaxy S23 series. But, as is tradition, Samsung will almost certainly include a couple of additional product announcements for good measure. Here’s a roundup of everything we’re expecting at the event, which is due to kick off at 1PM ET / 10AM PT / 6PM GMT on Wednesday.

Let’s start with some context because past events often provide clues about what’s coming. Samsung held a very similar launch event last year in February 2022 when it announced the Galaxy S22 lineup consisting of the S22, S22 Plus, and S22 Ultra. Alongside it, the company also launched new tablets, the Galaxy Tab S8, Tab S8 Plus, and Tab S8 Ultra.

This year, rumors suggest Samsung could shake things up a little bit. It’ll apparently still have a new lineup of smartphones to announce, but rather than tablets, it’s expected to have new laptops. The keen-eyed have spotted that Samsung’s reservation page for the upcoming launch specifically name-checks a new “Galaxy Book” alongside the new smartphone, and rumors suggest this will be a lineup of Galaxy Book 3 devices.

Here’s everything we think we know about what’s coming:

The Galaxy S23 series

This one’s easy, and not just because Samsung has announced a new flagship smartphone lineup like clockwork at the beginning of each year for a decade. No, it’s also easy because Samsung’s upcoming smartphones have more or less leaked in their entirety already, meaning we have a pretty good idea of their looks and specs even if we don’t yet know exactly how this will translate into real-world performance.

Like last year, the lineup looks to be three-strong. There’s the standard Galaxy S23, the slightly bigger S23 Plus, and finally, the high-end Galaxy S23 Ultra. Rumors suggest the first two will share similar designs and specs, while the third will be more visually distinct with at least one significant unique feature.

A leaked image claiming to show the S23 and S23 Plus.

Image: WinFuture

We’re referring, of course, to the S23 Ultra’s main camera, which has consistently been rumored to be using a high-resolution 200-megapixel main sensor. That’s almost double the 108-megapixel sensor found in last year’s Galaxy S22 Ultra. As my colleague Allison Johnson wrote last August, higher resolution sensors like these matter because they mean phones can bin more pixels together to gather more light and produce brighter, more detailed shots. The exact sensor is expected to be Samsung’s ISOCELL HP2, which Samsung announced just weeks ago.

Alongside this 200-megapixel sensor, a leaked spec sheet suggests the Galaxy S23 Ultra will have three additional cameras, a 12-megapixel ultrawide, a 10-megapixel telephoto with a 3x optical zoom, and another 10-megapixel telephoto with a 10x optical zoom. It amounts to a significantly better camera system than both the Galaxy S23 and Galaxy S23 Plus, whose own leaked spec sheets suggest will both have triple-camera systems consisting of 50-megapixel main sensors, 12-megapixel ultrawides, and 10-megapixel telephotos.

Leaked images suggest it won’t just be the camera systems that distinguish the S23 and S23 Plus from the S23 Ultra but their designs as well. The Galaxy S23 Ultra will seemingly have square corners and an accompanying S Pen stylus, reiterating its status as the spiritual successor to Samsung’s discontinued Galaxy Note phones. Meanwhile the Galaxy S23 and S23 Plus have much softer rounded edges, even if they’ve ditched the camera bump that distinguished the S22 and S22 Plus from the S22 Ultra last year.

A leaked image showing the S23 Ultra’s squared-off design next to the S23 and S23 Plus.

Image: WinFuture

Next up, screens. As its name suggests, the Galaxy S23 is the smallest of the three phones, with a 6.1-inch 1080p 120Hz OLED display. The S23 Plus is slightly bigger at 6.6 inches, though its screen specs are otherwise largely the same. Finally, the S23 Ultra has a larger screen still at 6.8 inches, and importantly, it bumps the resolution to 1440p. It’s still OLED and still 120Hz.

Those same leaked spec sheets we mentioned earlier suggest all three phones are going to be powered by Qualcomm’s flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor in Europe, and historical precedent suggests we’ll see the same processor used in North America as well. What’s interesting is that there’s no sign of Samsung’s own Exynos processors in the Galaxy S23 lineup, which the company has historically used to power its phones in select regions around the world like Europe and India. Qualcomm suggested as much in an earnings call last year when chief financial officer Akash Palkhiwala said Qualcomm’s processor share would increase from “75 percent in G S22” to “global share in G S23.”

The Galaxy S23 could ship globally with Snapdragon

The rest of the lineup’s specs appear to be broadly consistent with previous Samsung flagships and the industry at large. We’re looking at between 8 and 12GB of RAM and 256GB to 1TB of storage in the Ultra, while the two other models will reportedly only ship with 8GB of RAM and between 128 and 512GB of storage. Battery capacities range from 3,900mAh to 5,000mAh across the three phones, with 45W fast charging on the Plus and Ultra and 25W on the base S23.

In terms of pricing, internal Verizon documents posted to Reddit suggest we’re looking at a $799.99 starting price for the Galaxy S23, $999.99 for the Galaxy S23 Plus, and $1,199.99 for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, which is in line with last year’s models. European buyers might not be so lucky, however. In countries like Spain and Germany, leaked pricing suggests the starting prices may have increased by around €100 for certain models.

Galaxy Book 3

If Samsung’s reservation page is anything to go by, this year’s Galaxy S smartphone launch will be accompanied by a new line of Galaxy Book laptops. Rumors suggest we could see as many as five laptops announced, which MySmartPrice reports will be called the Galaxy Book 3, Book 3 360, Book 3 Pro, Book 3 Pro 360, and Book 3 Ultra. Last year, Samsung announced its laptops a little later in February at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

As you’d expect from its name, the Book 3 Ultra will reportedly be the highest-end model. According to leaker Ishan Agarwal, it’ll have a 16-inch 1800p OLED display, an Intel i9-13900H CPU, an Nvidia RTX 4070 discrete GPU, 32GB of RAM, 1TB of storage, and will be compatible with Samsung’s S Pen stylus. Its touchscreen could also be thinner and lighter than usual thanks to having its touch sensors integrated directly into the panel.

The rest of the lineup is reportedly split between 360 laptops, with displays that can flip all the way around to be used tablet-style, and standard clamshell laptops. MySmartPrice reports that the Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360 will also be available with a 16-inch 1800p OLED display, with a choice of an Intel i5-1340P or i7-1360 CPU, integrated Intel graphics, 16GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage, and stylus support. The non-360 Galaxy Book 3 Pro will reportedly be available with a 14-inch screen in addition to the 16-inch version.

Images of the Galaxy Book 3 Pro, 3 Pro 360, and 3 Ultra were leaked last year by The Tech Outlet, showing the laptops’ USB-C ports, headphone jacks, and charging ports.

There’s not much concrete information about what we can expect from the non-Pro Galaxy Book 3 laptops. MySmartPrice reports both will come with just a single screen size — 15 inches — but their exact specs are less clear. Judging by the rest of the lineup, however, we’d expect both to feature 13th Gen Intel processors.

But probably no tablets, earbuds, or smartwatches

It seems unlikely that we’ll see Samsung announce a new lineup of Android tablets, true wireless earbuds, or smartwatches alongside this year’s Galaxy S23 smartphones. The best evidence we have, frankly, is that if an announcement was coming, it’d probably have leaked by now.

Samsung did announce a new lineup of Tab S8 tablets alongside the Galaxy S22 last year. But according to a report from South Korean outlet The Elec, the company pushed back the release of its upcoming tablets (presumably the Tab S9) from their original December 2022 release date due to a drop in demand for consumer tech. According to The Elec, however, we should still expect a new generation of tablets to release this year, which means they might still launch alongside Samsung’s anticipated Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Z Flip 5 foldables at the company’s traditional summer launch. Just don’t hold your breath for an appearance in February.

Expect more later this year

It’s a similar story with Samsung’s true wireless earbuds. The company currently has between two or three lines of earbuds, depending on whether you think it’ll ever release a follow-up to the (in my opinion excellent) Galaxy Buds Live. The company last updated its Galaxy Buds Pro lineup in August last year with the Pro 2 and released the non-Pro Galaxy Buds 2 in August 2021. That suggests the latter is due for an upgrade this year but maybe not for a few months yet.

Finally, there are smartwatches, which last saw an update with last August’s Galaxy Watch 5 series. Samsung’s smartwatches have been on a 12-month release cadence for the past couple of years, meaning the most likely time we’ll see a Galaxy Watch 6 announced is in August 2023.

Samsung’s Unpacked event will be livestreamed over on its YouTube channel on Wednesday, February 1st, starting at 1PM ET / 10AM PT / 6PM GMT.

npressfetimg-1252.png

The house and techno scene blew us out of the water last year, with future stars pulling out all the stops – and here’s who we’ve got our eyes on in 2023!

It seems like the pandemic was just an awful fever dream as we reflect on a bustling 2022 under the lasers and lights. When it comes specifically to the house and techno scene, its popularity has never been more pronounced, with music seekers swarming major events like Movement, CRSSD Festival, Seismic, ARC, and Skyline Los Angeles, while artists like Dom Dolla, John Summit, and Charlotte De Witte caused a frenzy with each and every set they served up!

Of course, the industry would not be what it is without the backbone of local DJs and rising producers, and 2022 was chock-full of these incredible beatmakers and dancefloor dominators. As the new year celebrations are growing more distant in the rearview mirror, it’s time to take a magnifying glass to the talent who made breathtaking impressions as they moved up and onto major labels or made a lasting impact with their presence behind the decks.

So, pour yourself your favorite beverage and take a load off as you get to know the house and techno artists that Grant Gilmore and Maria Clinton feel you should set your eyes and ears firmly upon. And as you gear up for an eventful 2023, here is a little advice – get to the club or festival early and show love to the supporting acts because they are the future, and they just might turn your world inside out!

10 House & Techno Artists to Watch in 2023

Local Dialect

Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | SoundCloud

Local Dialect is a DJ/producer duo from NYC who kicked off their journey back in 2018 with the release of “Polarity.” Since then they’ve hit the ground running, finding a home on Kyau and Albert’s Euphonic Visions while also making their mark on Grum’s Deep State, Mark Knight’s Toolroom, and Gorgon City’s REALM Records. Once 2022 rolled around, these guys had even more label domination on their minds, making their Desert Hearts Black debut with the haunting Erebus, landing on Stil Vor Talent with a combined package alongside Annett Gapstream before heading over to Aly & Fila’s Pattern imprint with their remix of “Helios” by Paul Thomas.

Riding the line of progressive and melodic house & techno, Local Dialect took fans on a beautiful ride last year, bringing back memories of the night they played direct support for Gorgon City at the iconic Brooklyn Mirage. In addition, they’re really grabbing the attention of industry pioneers like Pete Tong, who gave their track “Dionysus” a spin on BBC Radio 1 this past spring. What’s more, is that they’ve completely revamped their studio space and are “happy to say our space is set up to crank out the perfect Local Dialect tune at a moment’s notice.” This can mean nothing but positive growth for the duo, setting them up for a highly productive 2023! – MC

Cloverdale

Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | SoundCloud

Our neighbor to the north has bred some amazing talent including Sydney Blu, Rezz, Marc Houle, Adventure Club, Felix Cartel, deadmau5, and the list goes on. But make space because Cloverdale is here and making his name known to the masses! Coming to us straight out of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Cloverdale has his sights set on making the world feel even just a little bit better with his unique tech and bass house flavors on labels like Insomniac, hau5trap, and SOLOTOKO. He even keeps his fellow dreamers in mind, using his platform to host music production tutorials and live demo listening sessions.

Speaking of production, 2022 brought a plethora of tracks out of the Vibrancy boss’ studio; party-pumping gems like “No Stoppin” alongside Eleganto, “Ice Age,” and “Nothing Gonna Stop This” with Truth x Lies. But it was his tune “Talkin,” that nabbed him the number one spot on Beatport’s Bass House Top 10 in January. Beyond his personal beats, he’s been killing the game on the event circuit, heading out on his first international tour (US) in the spring of 2022 before setting dancefloors ablaze at EDC Vegas, Ubbi Dubbi, and Nocturnal. We can’t wait to see where he takes his talents next! – MC

Henry Brooks

Facebook | Instagram | SoundCloud

While the sounds of melodic techno permeated much of the US scene in 2022, the sound of harder, more aggressive techno has continued to bubble up from the underground. One artist who has helped inject this style of high-octane techno into the minds of many is Henry Brooks, a Detroit-based DJ and producer who has continued to carve out his niche in the scene since 2016.

Although short on releases, with only “Horizons” and a remix of Hadone’s Hope Reminds Me Of Her” available on Spotify, Henry Brooks shined brightly with his captivating sets. Past years had seen him open for countless artists who were traversing through Detroit, but in 2022 he made his debut at the iconic Movement Festival, joined Charlotte De Witte for KNTXT showcases, and blew us away when he played his set at Subverse 2.0 in San Diego. If you’re on the hunt for an artist who is the future of techno, there’s no doubt that Henry Brooks should be on your radar! – GG

Grigoré

Facebook | Twitter | Instagram | SoundCloud

Grigoré left a lasting impression with his debut EP on This Never Happened in 2020, Illusion, and has only continued to impress ever since. The past few years have seen him quickly win over the hearts and minds of melodic house and techno lovers with a flurry of releases that have landed on labels ranging from Diynamic and Renaissance Records to Eklektisch and Running Clouds.

Standout bodies of work from Grigoré include a few that landed in 2022, such as the It’s All Fiction and Modern Tranz Opera EPs. He also flexed his remixing abilities by transforming tunes like Le Youth, Nathan Nicholson, and OCULA’s If Only (You Could Be Here)” and Lane 8 and Solomon Grey’s Together” to perfection.

Grigoré capped off 2022 with the release of “Monologue I” on Yotto’s Odd One Out and also stunned with his Interpretation Series that saw him breathe new life into Opus III’s “It’s A Fine Day” and Grace’s “Not Over Yet.” These releases have only helped solidify his place in the melodic realm and make it clear that he’s setting off to do even greater things in 2023 – don’t miss your chance to catch him if you get a chance and follow him to stay in the know on future tunes! – GG

Baby Weight

House-heads will all agree Baby Weight is hands down one of the most exciting DJs/producers to emerge onto the scene with genre-bending tunes that exude huge character. Hailing from Washington D.C., Baby Weight wasted no time launching her own record label, Chub Rub, followed by her debut album Phases, before “Rave Police” anchored her to the map. Most recently you can find her on labels such as Farris Wheel Recordings and My Techno Weighs A Ton with quirky club anthems like “We Werk It” and “The Bread Song” with Hot Pot.

In addition, as a trans woman, she’s been a beacon of hope and light for the LGBTQ community and has enjoyed a phenomenal response surrounding “Maudlin Crüe” and “O Sweet Baby Jesus” on HE.SHE.THEY., a label created specifically for marginalized artists. On the same token, we’ll never stop dancing to “House Princess,” a track with Karnage Kills that landed on LP Giobbi’s debut FEMME HOUSE Compilation in celebration of Women’s History Month.

Of course, when she wasn’t in the studio making magic, she was helping music lovers live their best lives at events including Dirtybird Campout and CampINN, Hard Summer, EDC Vegas, FEMME HOUSE takeovers, Project GLOW, and so many more! There’s no doubt that in 2023 Baby Weight will continue on her trajectory to stardom as we continue to fall head over heels for her unpretentious beats and infectious personality. – MC

Rïa Mehta

Facebook | Instagram | SoundCloud

Our next artist that pulled out of the pack last year is Rïa Mehta. She is a breathtakingly talented producer & DJ based out of Brooklyn, NY, with a sharp ear for the deep and melodic house & techno genres. Much of her music is influenced by her Indian-Sri Lankan heritage and her world travels, placing the listener in a pure state of bliss while offering up the perfect punch to keep the bodies undulating on the dancefloor. Some of her best work comes out of the Desert Hearts Black catalog, including Realms Of Darkness and “Arcane,” and her collaboration game is equally strong, partnering with Australian rising star and close friend Sean Ae, on effervescent tunes like “Every Moment,” “Mirimar,” and “Anarchy.”

Taking her music on the road, Rïa Mehta has tapped into her love for travel, playing everywhere from Sweden to Berlin, Burning Man, a boat party in Amsterdam for ADE, and maybe one of the coolest bookings ever, a clifftop in Goa. All this in order to gather influence to take back to the studio. In between it all, she has co-founded the Club Rapture label with DJ/Producer Drew Proud and Rekha Philip and never refuses to take her fellow New Yorkers to the moon when she’s in town. It’s her worldly drive, passion for adventure, and outstanding abilities inside the studio AND behind the decks that make her a shoo-in to reach the stars in 2023! – MC

Diode Eins

It’s not every day that we see a trio emerge onto the scene, so the German triad Diode Eins has quickly grabbed our attention. They organized with a vision to rule the dubstep and dnb scene but quickly realized that their forte and their hearts lay with techno, and in 2020, their awakening would come to fruition with the banging bassline of “Hymenoptera.” From there, they began to build their platform on labels like Insectum and Eclipse while collecting a faithful following through the underground pulse of “A World You Don’t Know,” Placebo, “9PM,” Morgenland, and more.

Once they landed their debut track on Grum’s Deep State in 2022, the world could really start to see the trio coming into their own. In fact, The Light EP is arguably one of the best works they’ve put out, unleashing massive ethereal melodies and leaving listeners in awe. And if you didn’t know them, then you certainly do now, releasing gem after gem, including “Segment,” their remix of “Crisis” by Entel and Luke Coulson, and Believe, topping it all off with the breezy sound atmosphere of “Wind” on Nora en Pure’s Purified Records.

But production is only one part of the puzzle. On the event side of life, Diode Eins is still pretty local, wowing crowds around Europe at venues like The Steel Yard London. But for us, in the States, we can only cross our fingers and hope that they eventually make their way across the pond to show us what they’re made of behind the decks. Of course, this makes them a unique choice for our artists to watch, but after such a fantastic few years in the studio, we have a sneaking feeling they’re about to spread their wings and fly! – MC

Luke Alessi

Australian DJ and producer Luke Alessi is an artist you’ll want to become acquainted with if you’re someone who loves a dynamic blend of house, progressive, and indie dance. First arriving on the scene in 2018, he’s found a home on labels including Astralwerks, Desert Hearts Black, Thick As Thieves, and Mobilee Records over the past few years – but 2022 saw him turn even more heads with some gorgeous releases.

Luke Alessi dropped off multiple EPs last year, including Nothingness and No Paparazzi, all of which put his signature style on full display. Additionally, he deepened his grip on fans of RÜFÜS DU SOL with a remix of “Devotion” that left listeners breathless while also gracing their imprint, Rose Avenue Records, with two tracks on the Scuze Me EP. He also embarked on a tour throughout Australia over the past few months, but fans in North America can get a dose of his sounds when he takes the stage at Sundream Baja in May – make sure to stay tuned for future shows and releases by following him on social media! – GG

HELLBOUND!

Picture this – you’re in a dark, grimey warehouse, and booming beats filled with the sounds of acid, classic rave, and techno are filling the air. Who’s on stage? HELLBOUND!, of course. We’ve had our eye on this DJ and producer for a few years now as he delivered massive release after massive release on labels ranging from Welcome Records and Space Yacht to Sable Valley and Mad Zoo. Not only that but he’s continued to carve out space on NULLSECT with some insane releases and performances during their raves as well.

In 2022 HELLBOUND! grew to even greater heights with the release of two stunners on the SENSUS EP, a collaboration with Declan James and Drakk, “Hate is the Only Weapon,” and “The Jötunn” on Heist Mode Vol. III. He also dominated the decks during his sets during NULLSECT takeovers in cities like Dallas, Houston, Salt Lake City, Denver, and Los Angeles, to name a few. If you want to experience the essence of the rave, there’s no better artist to catch than HELLBOUND!, so make sure you see him when he heads to a city near you next! – GG

Bexxie

Although Bexxie has DJ’d and produced music since the late ’90s, her recent rise in the house music realm began just a few years ago and has picked up plenty of momentum ever since. Releases on Brooklyn Fire, Thrive Music, Liftoff Recordings, and Toolroom helped set the tone for her quick ascension, but she also has begun to carve out a home on Anjunabeats as well.

In 2022, Bexxie was featured as part of the Anjunabeats Rising Residency series and released “The Time” on the imprint while also getting booked to play their events. This included The Gorge and London editions of Group Therapy Weekender, the Anjunabeats Miami showcase during Miami Music Week, and Genix’s 1720 Warehouse show during ABGT500 weekend. She also dropped other fantastic gems like “Feeling It” with Rodrigo Serna and Marie Noëlle, “Find My Way,” and a sensational remix of Jackarta’s Zebra” along the way.

Having just opened for Above & Beyond at Story Miami on New Year’s Day, Bexxie is already gearing up for another massive year of growth in the scene. Not only will she be playing ahead of Dombresky in Charlotte later this month, but she’s heading to Austin to play alongside Andrew Bayer, Mat Zo, and OLAN in March. Don’t sleep on Bexxie if you get the chance to catch her spin – and stay tuned for future releases that are sure to land throughout the year. – GG
